According to the information we have got, Buick has been planning to add an all-electric car to its series in China. It will be the new 2017 Buick Velite which will represent a transformed version of a Chevrolet Volt. The new Buick Velite was revealed at the 2017 Shanghai Auto Show.
As we have already mentioned the new 2017 Buick Velite (5) will represent a reworked and slightly modified Chevrolet Volt, aimed to the Chinese market. When it comes to its exterior, the first thing that you will notice is a redesigned ‘nose job’. In that front part of this vehicle, you will find a redesigned grille that will not have chrome grille blockers. In the new front fascia, we have also noticed the redesigned front bumper. The fog lights will also appear restyled. The new Buick Velite will be the second model that wears the Buick Blue Badge. It will be available in two trims – a 1.5 GS and a 1.5 GL. The first one will represent a more premium package and it will cost more while the other is considered to offer lower-spec package. This model will also be offered in several new metallic paint colors.
The interior of the 2017 Buick Velite will keep its coupe-like styling and be spacious and comfortable enough. The only problem that has been reported is perhaps the legroom in the rear seats. When it comes to the latest high-tech features, this model will provide everything that a modern-day consumer needs and expects from the next-generation all-electric car. It will be equipped with an automatic air conditioning system as well as an upgraded air-filtration system, necessary for the driving through the big and polluted cities. Also, it will offer the modern On Star system, 4G LTE, an 8-inch touch screen with the latest infotainment system and options such as Bluetooth connectivity, voice recognition, Apple Car Play and many more. The entertainment system includes 8 speakers and a Bose premium sound system. Safety and driver’s assist will not be left out as well, so you can expect 10 airbags, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, high-beam assist and automatic park assist.
The 2017 Buick Velite 5 will be using an identical power train as the one seen in the current Chevrolet Volt. It is a dual-motor electric drive system that uses a lithium-ion battery with 18.4 kWh and a 1.5-liter petrol engine with 99 horsepower. The estimated car’s all-electric range is around 72 miles. It will be geared with an electronically variable automatic transmission. There is also a possibility of introducing a plug-in hybrid later.
