The new 2018 Chevrolet Volt is coming soon to the market, and here is what it will bring. 2011 will go down as the year in which Volt revolutionized the car game. This is the year that the first generation Volt was released and it went on to become a huge commercial success. Since hitting showrooms as the 2011 model, the Volt found its way into many a North American driveway. It seems that Chevrolet were only getting started.
The electric evolution is here:
Now comes the second generation Volt; one that promises an even better driving experience than its predecessor. Chevrolet has improved this new model in many ways. For instance, the 2018 model has been buffed up, refined and smoothed over. But they have also made sure that it remains conceptually consistent with the original. As such, they have managed to continue appealing to lovers of the first generation, endearing the new version to broader audience.
#1.Longer EV Range
The engine is what makes or breaks an electric vehicle. The 2018 Volt’s 18.4 kilowatt-hour battery-pack stores 20% more capacity than its predecessor while simultaneously being 20 pounds lighter. This implies that on full charge, the 2018 Volt can comfortably do 53 miles before completely draining its battery. That’s a 40% increase in EV range compared to last year’s model.
Like its predecessors, the 2018 Chevrolet Volt incorporates an electric power-train with a gasoline range extender generator. The latter is a direct-injected 1.5-litre engine which power up the electric motors in the event that the battery gets depleted. This effectively augments the Volt’s cruising range to about 420 miles (an improvement from last year’s 380 miles).
The 2018 Chevrolet Volt utilizes a pair of smaller (100 pounds lighter to be precise) electric motors which direct power to the front wheels. These motors are asymmetrical in their functioning and perform rather different purposes. Sometimes one can be active while the other is dormant. Other times, they may work in tandem.
Acceleration: The Volt is able to move from 0 to 30 mph in just 2.6 seconds. 0 to 60 mph, on the other hand, takes a decent 8.4 seconds. Thanks to its low centre of mass, the Volt also handles quite impressively.
#4. Design & Interior
The Volt now provides seating for five, thanks to a seat-belt positioned in the middle of the second row.
The 2018 Volt comes with a semi-automatic parking feature, lane-keeping assist and a forward collision warning system… all guaranteed to give you an enjoyable driving experience. Talk about smart cars!
Starting at $33,995 , the 2018 Volt is better value for money – compared to its predecessors..
